How does the SmartLipo procedure work?
SmartLipo is the first laser lipolysis system which utilizes a very small tube, approximately 2mm in diameter, containing a laser fiber which is inserted under the skin. This thin tube is gently moved through the unwanted fat delivering the laser's energy directly to fat cells causing them to break apart and drain away. The laser energy also stimulates the collagen in the skin to cause some tightening. SmartLipo is minimally invasive and is performed under local anesthesia. The laser causes blood vessels to coagulate immediately resulting in less bleeding, swelling, and bruising.

What body areas can be treated with SmartLipo?
Almost all body areas can be treated including the chin, arms, abdomen, hips, back, and inner/outer thighs.

Who is a candidate for SmartLipo?
Women and men who have areas of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise are candidates. You should be in excellent health, close to normal body weight, and have realistic expectations for the results.

How many treatments will I need?
Most patients typically require only one treatment. Most sessions last from 45 min to 1 hour for each area treated.

When can I expect to see results?
Results can be seen immediately with improved contouring occurring over 4 to 6 months.

How long do the results last?
Because adults do not create new fat cells, you should see long lasting results. Should you gain weight in the future, the existing fat cells can expand and most fat will be noticeable where the procedure was not performed.

How does SmartLipo compare to other fat reduction procedures like fat dissolving mesotherapy?
Laser lipolysis combined with powerassisted lipoplasty is the preferred modality because it removes fat more efficiently in one session with results seen immediately. Mesotherapy takes multiple sessions because fat is not actually removed and is limited to very small areas of fat.
